Caracol 2018 Official Festival of Makati

A Festivity for Mother Nature....come and join this celebration for a worthy cause. Be counted and at the same time, learn and enjoy!

Makati City will hold this year’s Caracol Festival tomorrow, Sunday, February 25 at the Globe Circuit Events Groundsin Barangay Carmona, starting at 4pm, according to the city Museum and Cultural Affairs Office (MCAO).

Makati Mayor Abby Binay urged the public to come and take part in the revelry which highlights the beauty of natureand the importance of conserving and protecting our natural resources.

Mayor Abby said...
Caracol, now on its 32nd year, is a significant annual event for Makati. It serves as a constant reminder to our people, especially the young ones, that despite our highly urbanized landscape, we must strive to take care of the environment because our lives and our future depend on it.

The mayor emphasized that even as the city government has resolved to embrace technology and has taken major steps towards a “digital Makati”, it remains firmly grounded on its commitment to remain at the forefront of global efforts to promote sustainable and highly resilient communities.

Mayor Abby added:
Caracol Festival is not a mere display of merriment, but an effective tool to heighten public awareness on the urgency of getting our acts together to heal the earth, and to motivate residents and visitors alike into taking an active role in building a healthy and sustainable environment.

A Spanish term for snail, Caracol alludes to the shell people use as shields to life’s harsh realities. During the festival, revelers are encouraged to discard their “shells” and join in the merrymaking and to rejoice in the bounty of Mother Earth.

Mayor Abby also thanked the city’s constant partners in the private sector through the years for consistently supporting the event, namely, Ayala Land, Circuit Makati, Manila Bulletin, and Make it Makati.

The MCAO has confirmed that the festival will start with a parade of participants, barangay officials and residents, city employees, private sector representatives, senior citizens, and students at 4pm, which will be followed by a dance competition.

This year’s highlight will be a dance competition wherein participants are expected to showcase a creative interpretation of different environmental issues.

The competition is divided into three clusters: elementary schools, high schools, and Barangays. For each group, some 30-40 members, excluding musicians and props men, will be performing. For this year, three elementary schools will give their visual interpretation of Endangered Species and dance to the tune of retro or pop, namely, Pitogo Elementary School, Nicanor Garcia Elementary School, and San Antonio Village Elementary School.

Meanwhile, high school students from San Antonio National High School, Makati Science High School and Pitogo High School will perform either Waltz or ballet, clad in flower or insect-inspired costumes. On the other hand, there will besix groups of performers from the Barangays who will imitate marine life while ballroom dancing.

Prizes at stake for each category are as follows: First Place, P150,000 cash prize; Second Place, P125,000; and Third Place, P100,000.  The overall champion will receive P150,000 cash prize.

Special awards will also be given away for Best in Costume and Best in Choreography, with a P50,000-cash prize for each award.

Contestants will be judged according to appearance, creativity in putting the spirit of the festival into performance, originality of design, and actual dance routine performance.

During the parade, judges will choose three winners for Best in Costume, with P50,000 cash prize for first place, P40,000 for second place, and P30,000 for third place.

A separate competition will also be held among professional photographers who will successfully publish their best shots in print media. The Best Photo will win a cash prize of P25,000, while the first and second runners-up will receive P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.

The Caracol Festival is the official festival of Makati City. It is observed every last Sunday of February.

The original concept of the festival was the presentation of three major festivals of the country. In its first eight years, Metro Manila talent groups of Sinulog, Dinagyang and Ati-Atihan were staged in one major event competing for awards. In 1993, to support the global call for the preservation and conservation of our natural resources, a new theme was created and evolved into today’s festivity which mirrors the beauty and bounty of Mother Nature.

Celebrate Everything Furry at FurryPinas 2018

Do you know what a Furry is?  Well, if you have seen movies like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Zootopia, The Lion King, shows such as My Little Pony, or anime such as Pokemon then you might have an idea. FurryPinas 2018, happening on May 19-20 at the SMX Convention Center, is a celebration of everything furry. The convention’s vision is to serve as the annual hub for furry or anthropomorphic media.

FurryPinas 2018 will be the first ever furry convention open to the public, after its first event in 2014. Holding the record as being the first furry convention in Southeast Asia, FurryPinas is the official and only furry convention in the Philippines.

What is the Furry Hobby?

Furry is not only a fandom, but also a hobby.  If you enjoy looking at personified animals in different forms of media be it movies, TV shows, anime, comics, etc., then you are part of the Furry hobby. Some examples of animal characters would include famous characters like Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, and many more.

Most of the communities involved in the Furry Hobby had been established long ago.  Take for example Sylvanian Families, one of the most popular toys in the market which has existed since 1985. Made by the Japanese gaming company Epoch in 1985, Sylvanian Families is a collection of anthropomorphic animal figurines and model sets. Distributed around the world, they have become so popular that there is a growing community here in the Philippines, one that remains strong to this day.

Other communities such as a fanbase for Pokemon have been very lively since the countless adorable critters have been popping out not only in our gaming consoles, but also in our phones, in the form of Pokemon Go. It is not uncommon to see someone throwing virtual Pokeballs at a virtual Pokemon while walking.

Why would you attend FurryPinas 2018?

It is one of the most unique conventions happening this 2018. If you will be attending, then you are among the first to experience this one of a kind event.  Despite being such a unique event, the tickets are also affordable with the basic entry level ticket costing at Php 115 inclusive of a lanyard and a con ID badge (early bird).

That’s not all! Anyone who purchases a ticket will surely get freebies during the event.  FurryPinas 2018 recognizes everyone who supports the event, no matter the type of ticket they buy, but do remember that greater freebies are in store for those who want more.

If you are an artist, designer, cosplayer, a fan of movies, shows, toys, and other content featuring anthro or humanized animals then you would not want to miss this.  This event will bring you various activities and features which you will surely love!

What happens at FurryPinas 2018?

FurryPinas 2018 brings two huge guests in the Furry Hobby.  First is Pocari Roo, an Australian furry fan and full-time YouTuber with over 100 videos on her channel and over 50,000 subscribers. She is primarily known for her Youtube channel where she does vlogs, music videos, how-tos, Q&As, and more, with a family friendly rating and a primary focus on being positive, entertaining, and helpful.

Bapogichi is also guesting at FurryPinas 2018.  A fan of the furry hobby with over 40,000 followers, Bapogichi is a popular illustrator known for his various fanart of anime, webcomics, cartoons, and video games. Bapogichi is one of the moderators of the popular Buhay Kolehiyo that features personified versions of different universities in the Philippines.

Of course, the event reserves tons of interactive activities for all attendees, including talks and seminars relating to the Furry Hobby, an area to play different video games from retro to modern games and tabletop games, various contests on and off the stage, and dances and performances, among others.

One highlight of FurryPinas 2018 includes the Furry Rave Party, happening at the very end of the con, which is a celebration for all Furry Hobbyist to enjoy. Also, don’t forget the dealers den, tavern area, carnival area, and many more!

So mark your calendars on May 19-20, and let’s all go to FurryPinas 2018!

DITCH CHEMICAL ROMANCE FOR NATURAL LOVE THIS V-DAY WITH NOVUHAIR

Its Valentine’s month once again! A month full of seeking to perfectly express your love in beautiful and fabulous ways. This is because they want to ensure they're the apple of the eye of their special someone come the romantic occasion of the year that they will celebrate together.

So if you find yourself being whisked away to a charming place or have planned on a candle-lit dinner date with your beloved, you’ve got every reason to get all glammed up on Hearts Day! Why not? T’is a celebration of love after all.

Make a big impact by putting together a look that brings out the best in you. From your clothes and make-up to the tiny details that count, you have many options to get that stunning aura on V-Day.

Better start with the hair, which usually draws attention to a person. Per studies, a head full of hair indicates youth and health at its best. Power and stability, on the other hand, corresponds to a long, shiny tress. A bouncy bob means bubbly personality. Meanwhile, curly locks add to masculinity and femininity.

Gotta hair like them? Well, don’t lose hope if you ain’t have any. All you need is love. And what a better way if it comes out naturally in you. Taking good care of it should not be enforced, but rather a rewarding pamper for yourself. This applies, too, when choosing the right product for your mane.

Stay away from chemical-based ones. This is a “must”, especially when dealing with problems like shedding or thinning of the hair. Most of which contain parabens as preservative, according to aesthetics and rejuvenation expert Dr. Cecilia Catapang.

“Through the years, as you use chemical-based product, slowly and little by little, your body absorbs the parabens, which accumulate to significant levels, enough to induce what is called an estrogen sensitive breast cancer,” she says.

Synthetic haircare products have several adverse effects because they are drugs. What you don't know about them might hurt you. So avoid it the next time you go over the counter for your supplies or ditch what you’re using today for naturally-made products because they aid in stimulating hair growth while maintaining its natural water, shine and vibrancy.

Amid a glut of chemical-free hair solutions out there, Dr. Catapang recommends NOVUHAIR for its being natural and compliant to the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive, which means it doesn’t have paraben. In addition of its safety benefits, this topical scalp lotion specifically is the only hair growth product in the market containing 19 natural herbs, essential oils and co-factor nutrients working synergistically to help remedy hair problems from growth to vanishing.

NOVUHAIR helps rejuvenate, nourish and maintain moisture in the scalp and improve the overall appearance of the tress. Lastly, it’s more effective and safe solution to help remedy hair loss and promote hair growth.

Sounds like it’s time to shift to “nature’s answer to hair loss”, ladies and gentlemen. It’s time to start loving again your hairwith NOVUHAIR to enhance or bring back the old “crowning glory” to look your best in front of your dearest, or turning the head of a potential mate on you this V-Day. Let the love begin!

Tanduay Athletics Locked In for Grassroots Basketball

Tanduay Distillers Inc. president Lucio “Bong” Tan, Jr. is taking his support to grassroots sports a step further as he goes on full offensive for Batangas Tanduay Athletics in the new Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

Tan, whose passion for basketball was cultivated in childhood, believes he saw a formidable ally in MPBL founder Sen. Manuel Pacquiao in providing opportunities for local talents from the regions to advance their basketball dreams.

“When we formed Tanduay Athletics, we had grassroots youth development as one of its major thrusts. We believe we can give equal opportunities to aspiring basketball talents from the cities and the regions through MPBL,” Tan said.

Each team is required to have at least three players that are homegrown to the area they represent. The MPBL features teams that represent a province, city or municipality in a home-and-away set up, where players get to play in front of hometown fans.

Aside from Batangas Tanduay Athletics, other teams playing for the MPBL include Bataan Defenders, Bulacan Kuyas, Valenzuela Classic, Marikina Athletics, Caloocan Supremos, Navotas Redcore and Muntinlupa.

Tanduay Distillers’ alcohol refinery Absolut Distillers Inc. has been operating for 26 years in Lian, Batangas. It is one of the country’s most advanced distilleries that has received multiple local and international awards for operating on zero waste and employing green practices.

“We put our hope in the next generation to make better their lives and become useful to society. To give meaning to words, we support avenues that will enable them like the MPBL and Batangas is close to home. That makes this endeavor special and worthwhile,” Tan further explained.

MPBL games air every Tuesday, Thursday, and ‪Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m in ABSCBN Sports and Action.

“We have a very encouraging start with the strong performance of the team. We hope to continue the momentum. But in every league or sport we support, what’s important is how we are making a difference in the lives of the athletes. How they develop as individuals and how they will continue to inspire a nation as an athlete like Manny Pacquiao is why we are here to support,” Tan concluded.

The Batangas-Tanduay Athletics had an early win during a match with Valenzuela Classic and Bataan Defenders as former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players Val Acuna and Lester Alvarez lead the way for the new team.

Tanduay Distillers Inc. is a member of the LT Group of Companies. Tanduay is the Philippines’ top rhum maker, which is also distributed in Asia and the United States, among other countries in the world. Likewise, the company produces spirits, wines, brandies, gins, and vodka. We are a registered company in the Philippine stock exchange as a subsidiary of Tanduay Holdings Inc.
